Hobbit's Gaia Avatars
Week of January 27th, 2013 - Cosplay a go-go, baby!
Sunday: I have recently replayed the Sly Trilogy- (Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, Sly 2: Band of Thieves, and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves) so I thought I’d try a Sly Cooper cosplay.Monday: I’ve also been playing a little Warriors Orochi 1, since I discovered it was released for the PC. This is Sun Ce, with the Black Tonfa in each hand, and the Imperial Han atop his head. The Sun brothers are the reason I bought Imperial Han in the first place, so… there’s that.Tuesday: Not often Luigi shows up here. But here he is, l- I should have had a ghost here for him to suck up with his vacuum. Whoops.Wednesday: Again relating to Warriors Orochi, this is Sima Zhao. I played him a lot in WO3. Less so in WO, since he does not appear.Thursday: …I’m sorry for this one. This is Clark Kent. He gets points for not being a primarily video-game character.Friday: Sima Yi, father of Sima Zhao. The quality is at sort of a low ebb at this point in the week, but Sima Yi has some promise.Saturday: And a Link. The hair is Secret Retreat (hair de fleur); the sword is the base pose of Draconis Adamantine- good sword, that.

Week of November 11th, 2012
Sunday: Manfred Von Karma. A villainous prosecuting attorney in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, he is a ruthless villain who will stop at nothing to get his guilty verdict. I always give him basically the voice of Sinistar, in my head.Monday: Hey, look, a magician! He’s levitating those cards! …yep, that’s all. That’s all I got.Tuesday: It’s kinda hard to see, but this dwarf is wearing a leather smock. I had hoped that Gaia had a proper welding mask, but evidence suggest it does not. Why did I hope Gaia had a proper welding mask? Because I got one for rather cheap at a flea market.Wednesday: So, Questionable Beards has now annoyed me. Why? Because the left-facing view of the avatar eliminates every part of the avatar before the oval border. The right-facing view (the one not visible until an avatar is saved) totally shows anything below that level. So I’m using Shadowlegend ‘Raiden’s meditation’- which usually is used for the Tengu- to minimize avatar parts sticking out below the card’s bottom.Thursday: There’s no particular reason for this gunslinger to be the Devil, but there’s no pressing reason for him to not be, either. It’s worth noting that the skin is the ‘infernal demon skin’ from Infernal Spirit, and not the Sentinel’s Gift. They’re easy enough to mix up.Friday: I hadn’t used the V-day 2k9 chocolate in a long time. It’s two main downsides as a normal-human skin are the swirl on the forehead, necessitating bangs or a hat, and the lack of fingers on its hands. The Case of Pietro has a number of gloves with very distinct fingers, so that much is solved, but I didn’t do a very good job on covering up the swirl.Saturday: I was hoping to make it look like the eyes set in the shoulder of this beastie are the primary eyes, overall, of a strange beastie. Can’t tell you how well it worked, personally; I see it, but I made it.

Week of October 14th, 2012
Sunday: Though there’s no avatar here, on Sunday night I twisted my ankle as I was leaving the house we were staying in. It’s almost a month later and it still doesn’t bend right. :\Monday: I was pretty worried about it at the time. Like, “Will this keep me from working the rest of the season?” It didn’t.Tuesday: This is my greatest greenglitch achievement. The key elements are Reve Rouille ‘shadow show poster’ and Grave Danger Funeral Frame, though you can get about the same effect from the shadow show poster and Janie [missing milk carton]; pretty much any item pose that has a peek-a-boo hole your avatar looks through.Wednesday: I’m no longer sure what inspired it, but my friend YoMommaSoFat created an image concerning me and using one of my gaia avatars. Week of September 2nd, 2012
Sunday: Some clown. I forget why I came up with this guy, but it’s kinda neat that he looks like he’s juggling torches. Monday: I think I’mma get rid of my Ron Bruise Mask, or maybe put it in storage. This avatar is approximately a reasonable facsimile of this week’s Wednesday avatar, only with more options available for additional changes to the head/face. Tuesday: The nameless protagonist of Outland. This is a pretty sweetly accurate cosplay, but! During the single day I had it equipped, it became impossible to replicate! Death Whisper ‘consume’ no longer leaves behind a blank black noggin when combined with The Nightmare ‘bitten’ or the Faceless Glitch- in fact, almost anything in front of it makes it glitch into absence.Wednesday: Elvira-ish. The avatar itself is fairly bland- it’s just showcasing another item that grants unisex cleavage, the Ornithophobia ‘bodice.’Thursday: For starters, the multi-armed pose is from Gift of the Goddess, called ‘Durga’s Divine Grasp.’ The closest skin color I could find to the arms was Changeling Baby Girl ‘Ran’s Skin’- I added Gift of the Gods ‘Thor’s Megingjord and Pelt’ for the evenness, and because it was about as far from the Ran’s Skin as the skin was from Durga’s Divine Grasp. For the rest of it, I added Sun Wukong as fitting both the theme and the color scheme, and weapon elements from Padmavati’s Lotus (and a surrogate from Captain Aria’s Nestegg.) I don’t know quite who this divine creature is, but I think he looks damn good.Friday: This jester came into existence because I figured that the Spiral Hypnotist ‘suit’ would work well with elements of The Rightful Heir. Ehn… not so much. The pants just end up looking silly.Saturday: Snidely Whiplash, redone proper- with the exception of the lack of a genuinely green nose. Still, a drastic improvement, imo.

Week of August 26th, 2012 - Villains
Sunday: The phantom of the opera, villain of the novel of the same name. The fiddle and long black hat are probably unnecessary.Monday: Edward Nigma, The Riddler. The Riddler is usually depicted with brown or black hair, but has- at least once, and notably, been depicted with red. (Poison Ivy always has red hair, and the Mad Hatter sometimes does.) Nigma’s beard is a combination of Questionable Beards ‘question mark beard’ and the default pose of Beard Science.Tuesday: M. Bison. Last time I cosplayed Bison he didn’t have a nose, which doesn’t really work for him. Some characters work without a nose- but some, villains especially, need noses. Bison’s skin is Changeling Baby Girl ‘Skadi’s Skin,’ in part because Gaia’s skin potions don’t offer the sometimes-unusual colors Bison’s skin echoes.Wednesday: Jason Vorhees. Both Jason and Saturday’s avatar make use of the faceless glitch with Masterpieces ‘Picasso Face’- in Jason’s case it’s to emulate the hydrocephaly he was born with. Sadly, I couldn’t find an appropriately ragged jacket for Jason before it was time to roll him out. Maybe I’ll dig one up one of these days.Thursday: Snidely Whiplash. His skin is shown as green, white/grey, or blue, in different mediums/portrayals. I went with white/grey, but I rather failed to make him look malicious. He’s wearing the large grin, but it just blends in with his face. This one, I’mma definitely going to fix. Friday: The headless horseman, redux. Sadly, I don’t have any improvements, just different choices. Light horse? Dark horse. Dark shirt? Light shirt. Cape A, Cape B, Sword A, Sword B… If I could have a different jack-o-lantern or different gloves, we could be getting somewhere.Saturday: Lex Luthor. His plant-in-hand should be a green rock, but it isn’t.

Week of August 19th, 2012
Sunday: There’s always one day of a trip where I can’t get anywhere near a computer, try though I might. Though I had an avatar created for this day, it was just me in swimming trunks with other people around. Use your imagination, if need be.Monday: Beard Science, the monthly collectible for August 2012, makes its debut on my avatars. Given the name, my ownership of it was inevitable. Both the default pose and ‘Singed Red Hair’ are used here, in conjunction with Death’s Whisper ‘Consume’ and Spicy DJ ‘Crank That Sound.’ I’m not sure where the rosy-cheeked effect comes from, but in a re-iteration of this avatar, I’d remove it.Tuesday: Some arm positions of Literary Luxury lead to the hands-on-glasses look achieved here. Layer that on top of the faceless glitch ala Lumiere Noire, and it’s just a matter of time till you end up with an avatar like this one.Wednesday: A cosplay! I don’t think I’ve had a cosplay since July. Anyway, this is Cervantes de Leon, a constant villain in the Soul Calibur video games. He’s sometimes undead and sometimes not. It’s not a great cosplay, but lookit the ones people on gaia have submitted. Aw-ful.Thursday: Self-portrait in work clothes, specifically as seen by the kids I work with. I’m the hairiest employee they’re likely to see. On this day, at work, my pants dissolved during a show. Super-awkward.Friday: The Tengu is wearing a skirt in a misguided attempt to rebel. Tengu, if you wanted to earn my scorn, you chose poorly.Saturday: Meh… There’s nothing wrong with any of this, good match between hair and facial hair, but nothing stands out here. Ho-hum, kingy.

Week of July 1st, 2012 - Partial Theme Week: Dynasty Warriors
Sunday: This avatar is constructed mostly using parts from the Monthly Collectibles. Unfortunately, in using the Antique Shop ‘salute,’ I removed some of the effect of the Prima Poppet ‘Satin Bodice.’ Expect to see that remedied in the future.Monday: Frankly, I wouldn’t blame you if you couldn’t tell that this avatar and Friday of this week are supposed to be the same character, Zhang Fei. This is mostly his DW6 appearance, but with a hat a little closer to DW5. The earlier version is a little more… impressionistic? ^^;Tuesday: A cosplay of LazerMike! To make the hands blue, and leave the face vaguely pink, I had to use the Kink’s Reprise skin, and the Masterpieces ‘Picasso Face;’ since there wasn’t anything like an appropriate visor, I put the Masquerade ‘red eyes’ atop the Fanta Citrus Sunglasses. And lastly, since LazerMike doesn’t have any visible hair, I used the hair ribbon trick.Wednesday: Zhao Yun. He’s the poster boy of Dynasty Warriors, for which he compensates by being sort of a dull character. Also seen here. The difference between the older and the newer appearances is mostly in the hair: the Fallen King ‘Ragged Mane’ is much better-suited to the character than the “Long Braid” hairstyle. Admittedly, the Yinlong Warrior hair would probably suit even better, but it’s busy using its weapon here.Thursday: A wizard, of an unusual type! The Scooter Blenny Party Hat looks very like a wizard hat to me, so I felt the need to make a wizard around it. You might have noticed, though, that this wizard and Zhang Fei (from Monday) are wearing the same pose from Inari’s Beads, the ‘yoake no katasode uwagi.’ I try to avoid using the same item-pose twice in a week for variety’s sake, but sometimes I fail. Ah well.Friday: Lu Bu. When he previously appeared, the character model was bulkier (as the cosplay is,) but both model and cosplay has slimmed down, tending towards accuracy. I’m just one black half-skirt away…Saturday: When they released an orange (well, mostly-orange) Beach Towel Cape, I acquired it and made a Cheddar Avenger avatar. Simple as that.

Week of June 24th, 2012 - Partial Theme Week: Superheroes
Sunday: A prototype of Mozzarella Man. Unjustly accused of being a copy-cat of The Cheddar Avenger, he’s actually been in action for slightly longer than the former, and he’s altogether more stylish/classy… he’s just a little unlucky.Monday: It seems that the best way to display a background is to have a backwards Jinxi’s Charm ‘You Are Jinxi Doll’ in front of it- that’s the item I’ve got that covers the smallest amount of background. Which, in this case, is Escheresque.Tuesday: I decided to have superheroes every other day or so this week. Or, in this case, a villain. No story here, though.Wednesday: A sonic-the-hedgehog cosplay. I couldn’t manage to get his legs looking skinny, but the big hands help make his arms look undersized. But there’s one thing that a cosplayer on the Gaia forums mentioned that’s bothering me, now, too: Why does the Modern Sonic Hair have eyebrows?! Sonic’s eyebrows are a part of his hairline, not a separate entity.Thursday: A mysterious-figure type superhero. At some point in the past I mentioned combining Lumiere Noire Reborn ‘Noire’s Dusk Form’ with the faceless glitch to get a completely faceless avatar. Take that, and then add The Case of Pietro ‘the thief’s eyeblack’… Gives you what appear to be very deep, very black eyes.Friday: Hey look! The Tengu has found a friend nearly as pouty as he is! Looks like he had to go a long way from home, though…Saturday: Crosstitch has a really neat schtick- make Gaia users create items, then sell them. I like all three variants of the Banana Split Vest- Underripe, Overripe, and Ripe. But I think Overripe wins out- I just like brown vests.

Week of May 13th, 2012
Sunday: The busier I am, the more likely I am to resort to self-portrait. Most of my clothing is easy-to-reproduce in Gaia, and it means that- when I get around to the writeup for the week- I have an easier time remembering what I was up to. This is the tail end of my Faerie Festival avatars. And in case you don’t recognize him, this is Gummy.Monday: Such a simple avatar. Ghosty, Celebrity Sunglasses, and Warm Starter Skater Guy Shoes. Approximate Retail Cost: 3000 gold.Tuesday: Once again, an avatar suggest by Warriors Orochi. This is Kenshin Uesugi. I am disappointed that I could not find an appropriately wiggly-barbed sword. Other than that, I feel this to be a very accurate cosplay.Wednesday: We sold some gasmasks at the Faerie Festival, so I went looking for one in my inventory. Lo and behold, there’s a true gas mask in Lyndexer’s Journal. Well, I had to make something using that. I’m still not quite sure what that something is…Thursday: The low point of the week: In a rush to complete an avatar I made something that is neither an accurate self-portrait, nor particularly interesting. Friday: Due to Gaia lacking an eye-searingly orange ruffled tuxedo shirt, I had to add a somewhat inaccurate tie… and the cape is wrong, too. I directed traffic and parking, DJ’d, and danced, in that outfit. And yet I was not the most flamboyantly-dressed person at the wedding. Bravo, my sister and my new brother-in-law.Saturday: …The day after my sister’s wedding, I was exhausted and barely got dressed at all.

Week of May 6th, 2012
Sunday: I’ve had devils before. Here, for example. But it took me until now to use the Kelp o’ th’ Loch ‘red water horse legs’ to give a satyr-like appearance.Monday: Self-portrait as a Lombax, and also as a teacher of some sort.Tuesday: I desperately searched for a way to make this tree leafier. The trunk is the Epic Fail Hat, ‘1/000000000’ pose. The actual body of the avatar is hiding behind it by virtue of being The Case of Pietro ‘thief’s pose;’ the leafiness comes from the Green Knight with a little help from the Dandiidoodad Spore. Still, I don’t feel like it really looks like a tree.Wednesday: I got the Preda-Armor in Dumpster Dive, and found it went well with the ‘Resolute Stance’ of Fallen King. Though a piece from Infernal Spirit was inevitable given that pairing, I couldn’t find a helmet to go with the set. And that’s why this avatar has the ‘Fiery Hair from Djinn Baharat and a black headband, instead.Thursday: One week and one day before my sister’s wedding (wherein I am a member of the wedding party) I received the last parts of my outfit. Eventually, these pieces will become part of a nerfpunk outfit. This avatar is a preview of that outfit. Right down to wielding nerflike pistols.Friday: I dropped off the grid, but still managed to update my avatar. But I had to drop down to basic self-portaiture. Thankfully, I was dressed very oddly over the weekend. Some sort of… academic pirate, here?Saturday: Still a self-portrait. Thought the outfit from this Saturday and next week’s Sunday are switched. You may recall an avatar like this one from before. Or, then again, you might not.

Sunday: I’ve had devils before. Here, for example. But it took me until now to use the Kelp o’ th’ Loch ‘red water horse legs’ to give a satyr-like appearance.
Monday: Self-portrait as a Lombax, and also as a teacher of some sort.
Tuesday: I desperately searched for a way to make this tree leafier. Still, I don’t feel like it really looks like a tree.
Wednesday: I got the Preda-Armor in Dumpster Dive, and found it went well with the ‘Resolute Stance’ of Fallen King. Though a piece from Infernal Spirit was inevitable given that pairing, I couldn’t find a helmet to go with the set. And that’s why this avatar has the ‘Fiery Hair from Djinn Baharat and a black headband, instead.
Thursday: One week and one day before my sister’s wedding (wherein I am a member of the wedding party) I received the last parts of my outfit. Eventually, these pieces will become part of a nerfpunk outfit. This avatar is a preview of that outfit. Right down to wielding nerflike pistols.
Friday: I dropped off the grid, but still managed to update my avatar. But I had to drop down to basic self-portaiture. Thankfully, I was dressed very oddly over the weekend. Some sort of… academic pirate, here?
Saturday: Still a self-portrait. Thought the outfit from this Saturday and next week’s Sunday are switched. You may recall an avatar like this one from before. Or, then again, you might not.
